My many influences
Who are they?
I grew up in the 80s listening to artists like Mr. Mister, Bruce Springstein, Tina Turner, Dead or Alive, Kenny Loggins and so many other groups or artists of the 80s. It was my favorite era in music. And I loved country music as well as the popular music of the 80s. I was influenced by many musicians, singers, writers and groups. Here are just a few I continue to listen to even to this day in no particular order.
Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Elton John, Bryan Adams,
Collective Soul, Queen, John Cougar Mellencamp, Train,
John Denver, The Bodeans, Glenn Campbell, Billy Joel,
Tom Petty, The Cars, Paul Simon, Tears for Fears,
Michael Jackson, Kim Richey, Suzy Bogguss, U2
Many of these influences gave me the courage to write, play, record, share and release my music to the public regardless of the many comments that were made. I tried to start a group many times, but it never happened. Sure, I played music with friends throughout the years. But I guess my style of music did not fit into their norm when it came to actually taking it serious enough to be involved in an album project. So all my musical friends and aqaintences shied away from being a part of any artistic expression or placing their names on an album with me. As the years passed it became less important for me to search out others to work with and more important to focus on just writing, recording and playing my music. I eventually stopped pursuing other musicians and chased the dream on my own. Sure, it would have been and still would be very fun and exciting to share an album with other artists. But if no one gets the excitement from my songs as much as I do I have to respect that.
